R. K. Hester
Texas Instruments
ABSTRACT
The analog front end (AFE) in an ADSL modem is the key to the modem
performance. It is defined around constraints imposed by the ITU/ANSI
standards bodies, the modem DSP algorithms and the 2-wire to 4-wire
hybrid. While the AFE presents many interesting challenges in analog
circuit performance, this talk will not focus on those aspects. Instead,
this talk will introduce the analog designer's view of ADSL and explain how
the system constraints drive the AFE architecture. A design example, taken from the 2000 CICC, is presented
